1. What Geo is
Geo is a free, open-source, peer-to-peer (P2P) application for creating and discovering real-world events that are validated by physical presence. There is no central server that stores your events or social graph: content lives on participants' devices and propagates directly between peers. Two modes share the same app:
- Public — anyone can discover geographically nearby events under an anonymous, user-chosen alias. Visibility is aggregate-only (counts, not identities).
- Private Spaces — an organization's invite-only events, relayed by a Geo-managed super-peer that gatekeeps access. Private Spaces are a paid B2B offering that funds the free public app. Joining one is governed additionally by the Space Join Disclosure.
By installing, launching, or using Geo, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility
You must be of the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction (and at least 13). Private Space organizers are responsible for the eligibility of the members they invite.
3. Your identity and account
- Public use requires only a device-generated keypair and a self-chosen alias; the alias gossips across the network and is not a verified legal identity.
- Private Space membership uses a per-member certificate (alias, role, optional verified email) signed by the organization and issued by the managed super-peer. Your certificate can be revoked by the organization (e.g. when you leave it).
- You are responsible for safeguarding your device keys. Because identity is cryptographic and P2P, we cannot recover lost keys for you.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- post unlawful content, including any child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — such content is reported to the relevant authorities (see §7);
- harass, stalk, impersonate, or de-anonymize other participants, or attempt to defeat the aggregate-only visibility model;
- forge presence/geolocation validation, tamper with signatures, or circumvent Private Space certificates and namespace boundaries;
- use Geo to send spam, malware, or to disrupt the network or a super-peer.
5. Content ownership and licence
You retain ownership of content you create. Because Geo is P2P, by publishing content you grant other authorized participants the technical licence necessary to store, relay, and display it as part of normal propagation. Public content propagates to nearby peers; Private Space content propagates only within that space's namespace to certificate-holders.
6. Open source
The Geo client and core are open-source under the licence in the repository. These Terms govern your use of the service and the Geo-operated super-peers, not your rights in the source code, which are granted by that licence.
7. Content moderation and illegal content
Geo operates moderation tooling for content that transits Geo-managed super-peers (primarily Private Spaces and the public discovery relay). We may review reports, take moderation actions, and maintain an immutable audit log of those actions. Illegal content — especially CSAM — is escalated through a restricted handling process with evidence preservation and reporting to the appropriate authority. Moderation decisions may be appealed through the in-app appeals path.
8. Private Spaces (organizations)
- Billing. Paid plans are billed through our payment provider. Subscription status,
dunning, and grace periods are driven by the provider's webhooks; non-payment may move a
subscription to
past_dueand ultimately pause the space. - Suspension / offboarding. We may suspend or deprovision a space for breach of these Terms or non-payment. On offboarding, operational data is exported then deleted; required compliance records (audit, consent, DSAR) are retained as described in the Privacy Notice.
- Org responsibility. The organization is the controller for personal data it collects about its members within a space and is responsible for its own lawful basis and notices.
9. Service "as is"; availability
Geo is provided "as is" without warranties. Because the public network is decentralized and offline-capable, we do not guarantee delivery, discovery, or uptime of the public network. For paid Private Spaces, availability commitments (if any) are set out in the applicable order or plan, not here.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Geo and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for content created by participants. Nothing limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Termination
You may stop using Geo at any time and delete your local data. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms. Sections that by their nature survive (ownership, IP, liability, governing terms) survive termination.
12. Changes to these Terms
We version these Terms (see README.md). Material changes are published as a new version with an effective date and prompt re-acceptance on next launch/login. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
13. Contact
